“No Slacking, No Begging, No Asking”

I first saw Nas’ new “Artwork” For the now untitled but classically named Nigger album last night and I was shocked, astonished, and amazed all at once! We (the educated) knew they (the cracker controlled music business) were gonna threaten to pull Nas’ new album from the big chains (read white stores) if he didn’t change the album title.

Once again.. the big homey may have just had a “genius moment” and sent a big fuck you to Wal-Mart, K-mart and the entire music industry.

I have always been shocked at how people who have not been ancestors of slaves, slaves themselves, or are associated in anyway always seem to been “offended” and “appalled” at blacks usage of the word “Nigger”. They’d rather we dress it up with an “a” as in nigga and say that its our term of endearment and say dumb shit like “if you say it, then why can’t we?”.

Maybe this new album will help you to understand the oppression, that black people have been through and clearly show you that if cannot share in our experiences then you are not welcome to use the word in any shape form or fashion.

Maybe the record labels will now see that we do not accept shit like Jimmy Iovine’s blatant Rock and Roll “Nigger” as a song title and their stand offish attitude to Nasir’s use of “Kike Nigger”, Spic Nigger”, Guinea Nigger” “Chink Nigger”. Why is it when they do it, it is to be considered art but when we do it is it “Blackxpoitation“….

It’s wonderful to see how uncomfortable white Amerikkka is when their chickens come home to roost. You who created the word “Nigger” will now have to look not at the words, but the history of slavery everytime you hear any of Nas’ new songs coming from your children’s cracker ass speakers or any of the lyrics coming from their mouths.. Does that make you uncomfortable???  I wonder why….

Food For Thought:

I believe the artwork is more than just a metaphor for the actual word that the music industry wont allow to be printed. Could it be more symbolic than when Prince wrote “Slave” on his face?? Could this be a call to examine why “WE” (the artists) who clearly have the talent continue to slave away for the “Master” (the major labels) only to be clearly robbed of our aspirations, our desires, visions, and benefits and above all unless you are the good house “nigger”, to never own what is rightfully your art, your “masters” ???

I leave you with this question: “They like to blame the Nigger, Strangle Niggers, Shooting Niggers, Hanging Niggers, Still you wanna be a Nigger too?”

What I’m Listening To…

NO… Not Puff or whatever he wants to call himself now.. (I actually hate him.)  I’m bumping “Official Girl”

The funny thing is when I heard this song first it was sung by Karina Pasian. A beautiful singer/ pianist signed to Def Jam. 

What a shock and surprise I got when I heard another version by my favorite non- singer Cassie.. “Official Girl” is Cassie’s first single off here non titled album that isn’t even coming out until September.

As much as I love Cassie I cannot ride with this blatant shit that happens in the industry everyday. (Myself Included!)

Karina recorded the song and killed it.. why isn’t it her first single??? Because Cassie and Diddy have more name recognition and frankly Puff has more money and more clout. So he flexes a lil’ money muscle, makes a phone call and voila!, Karina’s song is gone and it is Cassie’s first single!

I like the record so shout out to Timbaland’s puppet Danja and the wonderful songwriters that make up “The Clutch”. (Keri Hilson, I see you!) But I’mma rock with Karina’s superior version. She’s My “Official Girl”!

Sweet!!!!

While most of you were mourning the 40th anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination (c’mon people seriously… let it go..) some of us were living it up! 

After years of speculation, it seems the big homie Jay-Z & the baddest chick in the game (no Trina), Beyonce finally made their union official and got married!! No, there aren’t any reports, pictures, or paparazzi fanfare that accompany many of the other (read: white) celebs but WE know…

It seems there was a ceremony earlier that day followed by the lavish reception at Jay-Z’s tribeca penthouse until the wee hours of the morning.. A very beautiful sight indeed!  (Read about it here)

Regardless, Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Carter as they ride off into the sunset… Sweet!!!!!

P.S: Congrats on that $150 Million Dollar Roc Nation deal… I’m coming for the spot….

The Wire Cast Party (The Re-Up)

Yessir!! Where have I been…. everywhere and nowhere I guess. Regardless, I haven’t forgotten about you!

To recap.. January 25th was the Cast Party for the 5th & final season of HBO’s hottest show “The Wire”and ya’ boy Fresh was privvy to one of the hottest events in a minute. 

Not to run down the entire night to you but there were many highlights that made that a memorable evening! First off… I stepped out looking ever so dapper! (Wish you could have saw me!) 

 

The legendary B.B. Kings played host to the slew of Artists, Actors, Models, and Moguls that came out to Party!

  

We in the VIP…Of course… as we do… No waiting in line but the bouncer was acting like a dick head (like they do!) so I had to wait outside for 20 minutes before he let me in… 

 

A huge shout out and THANKS to Jazz the promoter! She was so sweet that she stood out in the cold with me until the bouncer let me in. Love is love…. that’s real talk!

 

Huge shout out to my man Old Face Andre from “The Wire”. He cooled out with a few fans that night! Let’s do it again!!! 

The homie and Naughty By Nature’s own.. Treach came through to kick it… 

It was definitely a dope night! The guys were dapper and the ladies were ACTUALLY sexy for the most part! The music was on point all night as DJ Hud ran through damn near the whole Roc-A-Fella collection.. You would have thought it was ‘95-’99 all over again!!!  

The Reggae music was courtesy of Legend Sounds and he did the damn thing on the 1&2’s!! He had the ladies all over the damn floor… for real.. for real… 

 

The atmosphere was so crazy… a Dutty Wine and Hot Fuk contest broke out… there was an ’80’s danceoff on stage and DJ Hud was pouring Henny straight… in girl’s mouths!!!! (Yessir!)

Shout out to ya’ boy Julito who plays Namond Brice on “The Wire”. He came through and hosted and we chopped it up about a future collab. (Don’t worry… I don’t hold my breath!) 

 

The night wrapped out into the wee hours… (after 12 before 6) and I made my way back uptown minus the Hip Hop Police!.. If you missed it you were definitely a lame…!! Shout out to Brooklyn’s own Sha Stimuli, Red Cafe, Roc-A-Fella, PowerMoves TV, and everyone else who was in the VIP!  I’ll catch ya’ll at the next one… !
